Sunlight Causing Color Changes?
We recently install Volga Blue in our kitchen. Lately I have noticed it turning brown. Are these rust stains? I’ve been using Stone Care International products to clean it. Help!
Thanks – Rose
Hello Rose,
Volga Blue from the Ukraine, is not really granite. It is natural stone called gabbro-anorthosite and is affected by sunlight. If you have much sunlight coming into the room, it is possible that this could be fading or ‘browning’ the color. It will not deteriorate it just change it a little.
There is also one possibility that that the adhesive they used is bleeding up from the bottom of the stone, but I doubt that.
Best wishes, Tom Cordova

Dear Tom,
I had costa esmeralda installed and sealed about 2 months ago in my kitchen. 2 days ago, we noticed that an area has turned white and bleached looking in a space near the stove that looks like a spill stain. Since we don’t do any real cooking, we haven’t figured out what could have possibly caused this discoloration. Do you have any ideas ???? We are sure we haven’t used any chemicals on it either.
Thank you for your help,

I have just had “moonlight” granite slabs installed in my new kitchen. My installer sealed the granite slabs after he installed them. A few hours later, the slabs looked as if there was white writing or scribbles all over. My installer said that the granite manufacturer puts a sealant on the granite prior to being sold to the consumer. He said his sealant must have disagreed with the initial sealant and now all the cracks or marbling lines have turned white and appeared to be bleached. My installer said he used an acrylic glue sealant, named Aqua….something
What can I do to fix this problem? Is there any way the granite slabs can be resurfaced now that they are already installed? Thank you kindly!!
